These things are very subjective, it all depends on what the client wants. There is no absolute do or don't in my world, I find that far too confining. |

I didn't mean it to be absolute, it was hyperbolic. The percentage of those who don't is large enough to warrant saying never. As for "what the client wants", I suppose that's true in the end, but a designer should use his knowledge of the field to try and inform the client to use best practices. This apple doesn't count. I don't know if it's sanctioned by Apple or just done because someone likes Apple, but it's not their official logo. |

There's no need to find an example of a professional logo with a drop shadow, I'm sure there are plenty out there. This isn't one of them either though, another one done for personal use probably. The Microsoft logo guidelines do include one that has a miniscule drop shadow, hard to see without zooming really far. If you're interested, here are their presspack logos. You have to agree with their rules of use to see them.
