I have put this off too many years. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial to learn photoshop? It is safe to say I am in the beginner category.

Welcome to the forum, it's fairly safe to assume that Google will be your best friend for tutorials, that and YouTube.
Try thesefor size.

I'm 8 or 9 years in now and only now do I consider myself a user with very strong knowledge. I do admit that many things I should have learned years ago, but better late than never. I see guys 10 years younger than me who are experts and somehow learned it much faster.
I use Photoshop for artistic purposes for the most part, not much photo or graphic editing. I use it as painting software much like Corel Painter.
So consider your learning curve to be a very very long one. But once you grasp it, you'll never look back.
And oh yeah, make sure you have a pen tablet handy. It's the only way to go. If not, buy one.
So yeah, youtube has excellent tutorials, and also just google any questions you have and your answers are sure to come up. There are billions of pages of information at your fingertips on the internet, so you'll have no problems finding the help you need.

Like thehermit said, google. i use it and just ask a what i need to get done. When i find that tutorial i print to a pdf writer and name it appropriately. i have a folder just for my photoshop tutorials.sometimes when i don't use a specific effect for awhile and i forget, i turn back to that particular pdf file.

The best way to start IMHO is by going to the library and getting a book on PS. It doesn't even need to be on the latest CS5 version, any version will teach you the basics.
Most tutorials assume you know the basics and the terminology. Until you do, looking at Youtube tutorials is likely just going to confuse you more. |

I have recently found that Youtube tutorials are the easiest way to learn. It's better than hand holding, you can virtually watch someone else do it at your convenience. Try Youtube.com...works for any topic. |
