I should know how to do this, but I don't--other than using the noise>median, or dust and scratches filters.
Does anyone know how to remove a moire pattern from a scanned photo?

Try scanning it again only turn the picture on the scanner to about 30° first. See if that improves it.
Check your software, most scan software has a descreen setting you can try too. |

I can try turning the picture. I used to be able to do that angling it at about 15 degrees. The descreen option won't appear on my scanner. I'm using an all-in-one. My normal flatbed is old and I can't download any updates for windows 7. Thanks though.

Just out of curiosity, why would you use the software that came with the scanner? Why wouldn't you import it into PS, and then manipulate? |

Scanning is what causes the moire pattern to occur in the first place. It's most pronounced on vertical and horizontal lines, as the scanner scans horizontally which is why angling the picture usually helps. Most scanners have software that will do essentially the same thing. |

If I import into PS, PS still uses my scanner software to perform the scan. |

Use your scanner outside of Photoshop and use the descreen function in the software if moire is a problem. Then open the file in PS. |

It's a technique/plugin for removing repeating patterns from images, wether it is texture from the paper or moire patterns introduced from scanning. You need to download the filter and then follow the steps HERE it should be fairly clear, but if you have any problems or don't understand, shout back and I will endevour to help as best I can.
