I have a friend who owns an up market bistro and he recently has engaged the services of a professional photographer to create a most interesting mural on one of his property's internal walls within the restaurant.
It is a photo of the internal of his restaurant , full of customers sitting , standing and chatting and in the foreground is the photographer taking 'the shot'.
The size of the shot is approximately 3m x 3m.
The impression of a huge mirror has been created producing an effect of increasing the depth of the restaurant.
It has been placed on the wall , not as a poster but apparently as a mosaic of tiles onto which the image is printed.
Hence making the 'mirror' appear as a multitude of 'mirror tiles',
My question is this : the photographer created the assignment by coming over a period of several weeks taking multiple shots and then using Photoshop to merge them together, why would he do this ?
Why not come a few times take multiple shots and then just select the one which he judged best ?
The customers appearing in the shot were not there at the same time and in fact you can see when inspecting closely, some heads are missing and bodies incomplete.
It's not like the restaurant is usually empty, he could have waited for a moment to get the place 'just as he wanted it'.
It IS very effective though but why go to this trouble ?

You are questioning why an 'artist' creates the way he/she creates? Or maybe the photographer has fallen on lean times, as many have these days, and they possibly mooched a free meal with each visit. Who really knows their motives?
