yes, i've lowered the opacity.. how do i change the image size?

The menus at the top .. go to Image .. image size. Once you have dimensions click ok and then create new layer Ctrl/Shift key together and hit N. This creates new layer. Use your marquee tool to create box and hold down the alt key and press delete. This will fill your box with the foreground colour. Next create another new layer .. call it text and select the icon in your toolbar that looks like a T. This brings up your text tool and you can type whatever text you want .. notice at the top of the window there are boxes where you can change the size, the font etc.

Double click the text layer to change its font or size .. this will select the text.

Sorry will have to continue this tomorrow. At least it has given you a start.
