I have Photoshop Elements 4 (yes, I know it is out of date, but I don't use it that often). I use my photographs as reference for art projects, and your answer to this could help me with future projects as well. My current project involves a photograph that needs to be increased in sharpness and detail. It is a good, clear photo of a golden cat, but is not clear enough for my purposes. The cat is all stripe-y and mottled in color, lots of light swirls and dark swirls of color all over her body. Fur blending into more fur - You get the picture!! I need to be able to separate every swirl from its neighbors, clearly see all the directions of all the fur, and clearly pick out all the details of her eyes and ears. The final photo does not necessarily have to be beautiful in its own right -- It will just be used as a tool for my artwork. In fact, I don't even have to retain the color - all I need clearly are all the shapes and the shapes of the shadows, eye detail and ear detail.

I'm not really that skilled at Photoshop. I've tried sharpening and more sharpening, which doesn't work. Somehow all I get are massive pixels which don't do what I need.

Is it possible to turn a photo into a line drawing? I've tried doing this, but all the lines I get are really thick and not accurate at all.

Thank you for your help.
