Hi All
I'm trying to remove the damage to this picture and it's proving to be a nightmare.
I've attached the original scan before I started the work.
As you can see the dust damage is dreadful.
I've tried filter/noise/dusct & scratches with no joy.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Andy

That's a tough one for sure. Noise suppression software will help some. I didn't spend much time on this other than making it B&W and a little sharpening, then Topaz Denoise.

It would be not far from criminal to try and remove the grain from the image. It is a mark of it's age and era and is indicative of such that it's condition is worn and tatty. Some of the facial blemishes and colour correction and small artefacts and thumb prints should be removed but half the appeal is the tatty nature.

I have done a quick face job, there is still work to be done on it though. But really the only things that need attention in the photo is the uniform and the stonework.
