Hello, I am pretty new to Photoshop and need a little help. I am trying to make my self a business logo for t-shirts,cards and what not. I'm using brushes for part of the logo. I want the logo to have a transparent back ground so its just a single symbol with no background/ PNG file.

Here's my problem. I wanna be able to do it on a black background to see what it looks like while I'm making it because my T-shirts are gonna be black so I wanna see what it looks like on top of black and it's hard to really create it with a transparent background. But when I use a brush it sticks to the black background layer. Is there a way to make brushes their own layer or some other way?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I tried to word it as best I could. I'm sure this is a simple problem to fix, I'm just a noob. Please Help.

Take a picture of a black shirt from top view (if you're laying it on the ground or table - ...), and scan that picture into photoshop and place your logo on top of it with the layer set to Multiply. This gives it the real look. This is also how all the other website's do their shirts too.

Like Blink 182, you can tell the shirts are the same, just a different color, and with a different picture on top of it:

The brush "Sticks" to the background layer?

Brushes the tool or a graphic of a brush?

The brush Tool works on any layer that's highlighted so I'm not quite sure what you mean

Create your image with a transparent background and create a new layer, make it all black and put on the bottom of the layer stack and you'll see your logo on a black background.

Maybe I didn't word it right at all. Ok... the place I'm getting my t-shirts from has a program taht uploads yur design and you can place it on a shirt and build your shirt on the site.. If I use a black background it will show up on the shirt because the shirts are darker than the ink. So instead of just a logo, there will be a black square around it.

I'm trying to create the logo using a transparent background, I then open up a layer the same size and I turn it black. I then place the layer over my transparent background so I can create the logo over a black background and when I'm done I want to delete the background so the logo stands over a transparent background. Then I save it as a PNG...

I can't figure out how to do this using brushes. The brushes stick to the black layer so when I delete the layer it deletes the brushes. I think it has something to do with masks, but I can't figure it out.

EDITED- I'm using brushes I downloaded that have cool shapes and stuff.

Hi Izombie247, welcome to the forums.

Not meant to nag, but it might have been helpful to future internet or forum searchers if you had left the title of the forum question to it's original rather than the truer edited version ;)

regards thehermit :)
