So I have to extract a cargo net from a white background.

The netting is thick enough to use the pen tool, but there are at least 500 holes within the net. I don't want this to become a half-day job and so I was wondering if this would be easier with magic wand/extract tool? Advice please. Thanks.

I copied the red channel and bumped up the white balance with levels. I then copied and pasted the new channel information above the red layer I have created. Working on the top layer (channel copy) I used a colour selection and with the eyedropper made a selection of the highlights (whites) pressed delete twice and deselected. Duplicate that layer and change the top layers blend mode to multiply.
