Im really sorry as im sure this is a very basic request for help.

I have some photos that I need to work on and I need to know the easiest way to make parts of the photo a seperate layer from the rest?

I tried cutting round the section and using "cut as seperate layer" but it seems to create a white outline around the shape which is really annoying.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Make a selection with any of the selection tools, then copy/cut and paste. It will paste the selection into a separate layer.

If your selection isn't accurate, you may see parts of the background in the new layer.
