Hello,
I have a photograph of a sculpture that I made using LEDs as a light source. The piece is best displayed in the dark, but I am struggling to generate an image which highlights both the reflections of light on to the surroundings as well as the definition of the source itself. I tried to combine two images to do this:
1 image with exposure set to highlight reflections
2 exposure set to highlight light source
3 attempt at composite with cut and paste of source from (2) atop (1).
This strategy got me part of the way, but it looks sloppy. Glare is greatest near the source and the colors shift so that the cut out portion looks, well, cut out. I'd prefer a method of blending layers where I could select regions which would be emphasized and carried through. I thought that something like multiply would work but that was clearly not the right direction. I appreciate the help.

Use layer masks to do exactly that.

that was pretty easy. thanks for sharing such a clear explanation. will have to try a few times to get exactly what I want but this is definitely the right approach.
