In a simple test image I tried to fill the alpha channel with a copy of the red channel (CRTL-A, CTRL-C, CTRL-V). After saving it to a 32bit Windows .BMP, I printed out the hex byte values (RGBA) from the resulting file. RGB are fine; "A" varies slightly from the original R value. Any thoughts as to why? (I'm trying to understand how CS4 creates and stores images. I want to use it to create/manipulate textures to be used as displacement maps in DirectX.)

Thanks!
Brad
