Hi.

I should warn you that I am not even a regular PS user and know practically nothing about it whatsoever! I am working with ver. 7.01.

I have a series of greyscale terrain heightmaps (.bmp) and a corresponding series of black and white masks that show where the lakes and rivers of the terrain are supposed to be. However I don't have any data on the depth of the water at any given place.

So I need to combine my terrain heightmaps with my water masks to create a third set of heightmaps that represent an approximation of how deep the water is at any given location (somewhere between the lowest terrain height and the highest terrain height that fall within the water mask).

!!!!!!!!

Again, I don't know PS at all, so if somebody could outline a basic procedure for accomplishing this, that would be great. Also, does PS contain any sort of batch functionality to perform this task reptitively on about 1000 sets of images?

THANKS!!!!

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve here. I am not seeing how doing this in Photoshop will give you water depth. Guess I am confused.

Yeah, you'll no doubt want to do this in layers. Set up your terrain on one layer, the b/w masks on another, and insert a new layer for the water height.

If it were me, I'd copy the b/w water mask layer, then use it for the color layer that defines the water height. (I'm assuming you'll change it to color, and change shape etc.).

The best way to do 1000 images like this is to create a special action for it. You could probably do the most of it with just one click. I can walk you through it if you can provide more details with what you want to do. Maybe upload an image(s) of what you're working with.
