i get to step 5, choose gradient and when I go to apply there is no option to apply graident.. only apply layer mask and if I do that both the swimmer and layer join as one and nothing else ? |

I'm not sure how to make it any clearer than I have already but...
Click the layer mask button in the layers palette to add a mask to the picture. Click the mask in the layers palette to make sure it is active, it will have a white line around it when active. Choose the gradient and apply it to the picture itself. |
