I'm trying find a way to convert one metallic finish to another. Attached are a couple examples. I hope to develop a technique that would allow me to turn a photo of a satin nickel finish into a photo of a polished nickel finish. And vice-versa.

Some ideas for converting polished to satin:
I think I could use some combination of a Gaussian blur and then add some motion-blurred noise through a layer blending mode like "soft light". A quick test is shown in the Polished2Satin attachment.

Ideas for converting satin to polished:
I have doubts about whether it's possible to take a satin finish and make it look polished. I don't need to reproduce the reflections but I do want to make it somewhat convincing.

Beyond these two finishes, I would like to also create the following finish effects:

It seems realistic to be able to find a way to go from polished nickel or butler silver to any of the other finishes.

Any ideas?
