[Edit: Problem is solved. I guess I'll leave this here for googlers or in case anyone wants to report this bug.]
I got hit by a bug in Photoshop Elements 7 which left me with a .psd file with the wrong pixel aspect ratio (the titlebar of the .psd in PSE7 says [scaled]). Elements doesn't have an option to adjust the pixel aspect ratio.
Steps to reproduce the bug in PSE7:
1. File > New > Blank File...
2. Change Preset to Film & Video (Size changes to default of NTSC DV)
3. Change Preset to Custom (Size changes to None)
4. Change either Width or Height or Resolution (to whatever you want)
5. OK
Result:
You now have a .psd that looks exactly like a regular new blank file (no guide preset lines etc) except for "[scaled]" in the title bar which seems to let you know that the pixel aspect ratio is not 1:1.
Workaround if you get in this situation (no guarantee this will handle all cases)...:
Make a new image exactly the same size (in pixels), making sure you don't fall for this bug again; select all layers, hold shift, and drag the layers to the new image.
You might want to resize the canvas or move elements around afterwards to account for the difference in pixel aspect ratio.
(I didn't know you could drag layers to a new image at all - seeing as you can't "copy" them - and I didn't know about the shift-drag shortcut either ) |
