I need help trying to add other kids to a team photo. Two players missed a team photo and I’m trying to copy them into the main photo. I am using Photoshop CS3.

Do I do a “File/Place” or a selection/copy? Every time I do the latter I cannot seem to change the size of the photo of the missing player onto the main group photo.

I used to use a simpler program – and I was able to copy the image and resize it on the group page.

What is the best way to add other players to a team photo? I have separate photos of the other players.

My experience with Photoshop is mainly limited to touching up a single photo and using layers and filters, but this problem has me stuck and I have a short deadline.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Generally if I need to place an image onto another one, I'll open the image to paste, select all command a, copy command c, close command w, when the main image shows again select a layer, command v to paste and it will paste above the layer you had initially selected.

Quickest way for me usually. If the image comes from the web, usually I'll have safari open on my other monitor and simply drag the image over to my photoshop document. Just depends on the situation, there's many ways to do everything usually with photoshop :)

(I presume that you have already extracted the images of the players from their backgrounds so that they will fit into the team image.) The simplest way that I know of to accomplish your objective is to open both images in PS. Use Window|Arrange|Tile (horizontally or vertically, doesn't matter so long as you can see both).

Now, go over to the toolbox and grab the Move tool (top right, crosshairs with arrow). Hold down the Ctrl key (so you copy instead of move) and click-drag the image of the player onto the team photo, then release the button and key. Use the mouse and Move tool to position the player approximately where you want him.

Now, select Edit|Transform|Scale. This will put a box with scaling handles around the inserted image. Hold down Shift and grab a corner handle (for proportional scaling) and drag inward until the player is the size you want, then press Enter.
You may want to go back and forth, moving and scaling, until you have him positioned and sized exactly the way you want him. Save the file under a new name (to preserve the original) and you're done.

You can then further refine the image for realism. For example, by creating a new transparent layer above the others and then painting in a partially opaque shadow on the grass if the photo was taken in sunlight.

The file will still be open, so just open the file of the other player and do the same procedure. All copacetic, no? ;-)
