If I wanted to include both photographic and vector work in a composition. Should I work in photoshop or illustrator? Is there a way to use vectors in photoshop or will they be pixelated? Lastly if I have to use both can I have a file open in both programs at the same time?

Hi mysterygrl,
You could create an illustrator file and then import it into Photoshop as a smart object. That's the best way of working if you need the functionality of both apps.
Photoshop has some basic vector tools, and Illustrator has some basic raster tools, so it depends what your project involves. The Photoshop preview will pixelate but things will print just fine (the pixelation is purely a function of the preview).
Hope that helps
