Try opening up a new document and trying inside that. Then save it as a psd and try it again.
Is it ok with all JPEG's?

after much experimentation, turns out that it works fine with any new files (psd or jpeg) or any other picture files i have! but for some reason, it still doesnt work for the ones i had up when the messup occured...should i write them off as a lost cause? =/

Could be that something's messed up inside the file. If you want to email me one I'll take a closer look?
