I hate Illustrator. End of story. Sick hard to work with, I don't care if I can scale things to the size of a billboard, it's like someone telling a no armed man to finger paint.

Sounds like you've just had one of those two hour sessions and got nothing done!

I know what you mean, Illustrator can be very frustrating in the early days, but if you're into vector artwork etc I'd urge you to stick with it. Once you've grasped the essentials, the rest will come easier!

Good luck!

Kinda like it now, been watching tutorials. Still feel a little limited. I don't like how different layers are from Photoshop. And it's much harder to work with text.

That's the spirit, although I know what you mean about layers! Mind you, once you've been using Illustrator for a while, and your more comfortable with the layers set up, you'll be thankful that things work that way. They do help to keep things organised, especially as your illustrations become more complex.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

CS3 - I'm liking the 3D effect thing a ton, was beyond confused why Photoshop doesn't have that in it. Haven't gotten to Live-Tracing but it just seems like a Cutout Filter taken to the extreme. And memorizing shortcuts keys is like required. Plus using Ctrl, Shift, and Alt all the time is kinda nice, but I mix everything up. I kinda wanna get a tablet for it, thinking it would help, do you use one?

Yeah a tablet would be great for an app like Illustrator, although I don't use one myself, I've heard a lot of great things, and seen a lot of awesome illustrations created by using one.

Adobe sure have put a lot of work into the software in recent years, and I love the live effects, such as live paint, live trace and live effects. Tough to get use to, but worth the hard work once you're there!

I tried the demo of Illustrator and I cannot get my head around it...My fault I'm sure - I use Photoshop for many hours daily to produce Fine Artwork and I thought Illustrator would be a good package for large scale vector works - Man, it was really difficult to achieve what I perceived as really simple tasks - not really intuitive or spontaneous...........

I gave up on it thinking it wasn't designed for what I want to do.......I don't hate it but it did give me a few grey hairs.......and has definitely put my soul closer to the burning gates of hell as I have never sworn so much during that period....thanks Adobe. Red Face Angel Red Face

LOL When you get into the swing of how it works it'll knock your socks off. Really is the app to be using for large scale vector graphics, it does so much which is prob why it's so complicated to use.......at the beginning.

Go on, give it another go, you know you want to!
