from illustrator to photoshop

HELP, i just installed cs3 master suite on this computer, when i open an eps in illustrator and try to transfre a vector image to photoshop, it does not transfer it as a smart object. any vector image i have from go media, shows up with a white background in photoshop. any suggestions?
