When I need to place a bitmap that is partially transparent in Illustrator I make a PSD that has had the desired area on an invisible layer before I place it in Illustrator.
I've seen in both Quark and CorelDraw that you can bring in any kind of bitmap, such as the ubiquitous jpeg or gif, and you can select a color you want transparent very easily. No Photoshop needed!
I've asked Illustrator “experts” in both online forums and face to face with real humans and have gotten blank stares, or the online equivalent.
It seems to be a very useful feature, do you think it might be a nefarious plot by Adobe to make sure that anyone who buys Illustrator must also buy a copy of Photoshop? ;-) _________________ WK |
