Hi
I am new to photoshop forums and new to photoshop.
I am more of a developer than a designer but I've just set up a web store and I'm learning how to take images of clothing and edit them.
At the moment, I am taking photo's on my 2MP nokia phone camera and transferring the images to my PC via bluetooth. I am placing the clothing items on a whiteboard on the floor to take the photo.
I am editing the items in photoshop to remove the background but I seem to be getting jagged edges. I have tried using two methods:
1. Magnetic lasso
2. Magnetic Eraser
Is there some standard method to taking images of clothing for use on the web? Here is a sample of one that I have edited. It's probably quite poor compared to what you guys can do.

That's good.
A simple technique would be to use the magnetic lasso tool and then use the refine edge command under the select menu. It's really a great command that's worth playing around with. You may find the smooth option helpful as it smooths away blocky edge details.
It may also be worth taking the photos against a complementary background colour just to make the selection process easier.
That should get you going but no that there are more powerful ways to work, tools like the colour range command and full-blown channel masking will also produce better results but then they usually require more work. Might be worth investigating if you want your images looking the best they can possibly look.
