I'd like a script or action or something similar to enlarge a canvas by a given amount - say 5 or 10% on each axis, so that , say the amount of white added to the width is the same as the amount of white added in the height.

if I just chose 5% for both width and height for a landscape image, they look very much out of proportion. For a standard image off my camera in landscape, i find something like 13% height, 10% width works well.

Is there a way of calculating this automatically in a script and performing the englarge canvas command?
