I'm guessing Magnetic Lasso maybe magic wand but that may only cut out small portions?

You're welcome!

Polygonal Lasso Tool.
Took about 15 minutes.

Usually there is.
Using channels is pretty simple and effective way most of the time, but in this case the background is too similar to the object so that excludes this possibilty.

There is a "best" way to do this and then there are the others. But it depends how you will be using this.
The more accurate way is to create a PATH. Yes, you will need to go around the whole object and giving it a line with nodes (with bezier curves). This will give you the most control and ability to be able to blow this up and not see any pixel-like bumpy edges. but maybe you don't need it to be that good. I feel that it is good to know what to do it the most accurate, best control way then you can still do it a faster way if wanted.
