Hey guys and gals,
I'm a noob and I was not quite sure where to put this post.
I am about to do a photo shoot and would like to make the models look very airbrushed and cartoonish like in the link below...

So my questions are:
1) Is the background lighting/effect a result of a layer in Photoshop placed over the photograph or was it actually shot that way??? I have seen a guy on TV once show how to use a layer like a mask and create that background effect.... How would I do this?
2) What filters would I have to use to give my image that cartoonish airbrushed effect?
Any help is good help :]

The background looks like it is just a gradent done in photoshop, so the image of the person would have been cropped and put on another layer.
To get that kind of effect alot of different things could have been done.
The technic I'll tell you is very easy altho I usually use this tech after I have done other effects to the image, but try it and you'll see a simular effect.
take whatever image you want. duplicate the layer of the person so you now have two layers of that person. select the top layer, Guassian Blurr it ... say around 20px. Now go to (Edit, fade Guassian Blurr ) put the opacity to about 66 and change the Mode to Dark, try all the different Modes to see all the diferent results. It all depends on the photo but I find that the mode Dark will sometimes give that kind of look you are looking for.
