I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me out. I've been familiar with Photoshop for many years but I've always struggled with the Image Size dialog box.

I'm trying to create an avatar that is no bigger than 75 X 75 pixels and a file size no larger than 19.5 kb. As an experiment I coppied another avatar off of another forum and opened it in CS3. The Image Size dialog reads as follows:

Pixel Dimentions:
Width 75
Height 75

Document Zize:
Width 1.042 in.
Height 1.042 in.
Resolution 72 ppi

Resample is checked, Bicubic.

Document Size: 1.98 kb

I then created my graphic and resized it using the exact settings as above, however, the file size is 27.9kb!! How can that be? How do I get a 75 X 75 graphic at 72 ppi to be less than 2kb?

Also, the document size in CS3 says the file is 16.5kb but when I check the properties it says 27.9. What gives?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, this is what I have come up with. Also using cs3. It all depends on how much you have in you avatar gif. I took one that was nothing but a single image, resized it to your dimensions above then when saving, I went to file/save for web and devices. On the right side under the save button, you will see "presets". I selected GIF 64 no dither and it gave me 1.78k. Now, I did all that again using an animated gif that I made that has 7 layers to it and did all that again but the best I could come up with there was 5.719k choosing GIF restrictive.
