hi there to one and all. i am learning photoshop using the photoshoptopsecrets dvd. they want you to remove the sky from the picture (see below) the tutor has no problems, he selects the pen tool to select all around the house, removing the sky. he never mentions in selecting any other tools or buttons. Now when i do it it fills in the formed triangles in black and eventually the whole house.

when you have your pen tool selected make sure you don't have a fill
also up on the top when the tool is selected make sure it is set to paths, when you select all your sky make sure you close the path.
Go to select > Save Selection and give it a name (that way you have that selection saved and you dont have to do it again if you mess up the original.

thanks for your help but what you mean buy make sure you dont have a fill??????? |

figured it out. i selected the 3rd icon on top shelf (see top most photo)
