So I made a smart object and duplicated it about 10 times...

Now I want to make an edit to the contents of one but I don't want to edit every instance of it. Is there a way to edit only one at a time?

Have you try double-click in the smart obj?
When you do that it will open the item in a different window, there you can modify the content.
When you are done close it, it will ask you to save - it will save that single items and leave the rest of your layers without changes.
