. . . I think, or any other solution to this problem. My wife brought back a digital picture of a couple having lunch in a covered dining area where the background is open to the river outside. Obviously, her point and shoot exposed for the background leaving the subjects underexposed.
If I had been shooting with my trusty Maxxum 9000 with its AF4000 flash, I would have added fill flash for an almost imperceptible addition of lighting for the subjects without loosing the lovely background lit by ambient light.
. . . OTOH, I might have missed the picture all together because that camera with flash attached is one big package . . . probably would not have had it with me.
Anyhow, I'd like to use PSCS2 to add fill flash.
I have experimented with filters-->(can't remember the next step, I think it is spotlight or something).
I can get the subjects' faces to light up, but, the background goes totally black. I don't want that severe of an effect. Just a touch of selective brightening to bring up the detail in their faces.
The good news is that the detail is in the picture. I can use the image adjustment exposure control to lighten the entire shot, and the detail is good in the subjects' faces. Of course, using this feature lightens the background too much. Masking seems to be too complicated and the effect leaves the picture with a very doctored look.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks.
