Hello guys, sorry to bother you all.

Basically, i am in the process of making a new website for my World of Warcraft guild and need a small bit of help if possible.

I have the following image;

The idea is that i need to remove the background completely so i can place the character in the image onto several different backgrounds. The image of the character in question is generated using a program called wow model viewer, so i can change the background color to any preset color - however i cannot add an image or a gradient into the background, which is what i want to do.

I have tried using the magic wand tool but due to the glow protruding from the shoulders this does not effectively work.

I know this can be done in Sony Vegas using a filter method called Chroma Keyer, is there something similar to this in Photoshop (I tried to find something similar but failed miserably)

Thanks in advance for any help given <3.

Did you try the extract tool? that should help with the glow parts..
I used a totally different way just to try. I used a large/soft background eraser set to a 24% tolerance. Once I got the background removed it left the edges a little jagged so I selected the extracted dude and then made a border selection of 10 (Selection/modify/border) it makes a 10 px selection (5px on each side of the original selection) and I smudged it with the smudge tool.
Finally I used a super soft 10% eraser to blend the glow in better.
Took longer to write then it did to do it.
Hope it gives you some ideas.
Lasa

You could select the creature without the glow, and add the glow yourself..Shouldn't be hard..With a gradient ?
