I'm using photoshop CS2 and i am beginner. I want to make an advertisement or board. the print size will be 120cm (width) x 40cm (high).
I was wondering what should be the image size to use in photoshop to make such an output later?? and what resolution i should use?
I need some help please as soon as possible to start this work and maybe some help later to get a better opinion.
Thanks in advance. |

It really depends on what you are making it for..
Web? Print? Email? If I expected to use it for both Web and print I'd probably work on a 300 dpi canvas. I can later set it to 72 dpi for web etc.
I'd rather have to much information (300 dpi) then come up short enlarging a 72 dpi and pixelating the image upon resizing.
Size I'd work on it at the size I need (120cmx40cm)..unless you are expecting to also need a larger one..work on it at the largest size you could possible need it. Easier to downsize then up-size.

i want to thank you for the info.
in fact it's for print purpose, i want to put it on the road as advertisement, it includes picture and text.
So what i understand is that i just open a new file in photoshop and i set the width and high in cm like i want the output and because it's for print i choose 300dpi (or pixel/inch) right?
I have to work on the same size of the output i need or else i'll loose quality?
and there is no problem to work on that size? how if i need to print a sample on A4 i just reseize the big file i already have?
OK Anyway thx for all the help and answer me if you have time and patience. |

47 inches...The size shouldn't be an issue unless you don't have the ram to Carry you thru. I'm assuming you are going have it printed somewhere (most people don't have the machine to print that size) I'd call the printer and make sure you give them what they need with regards to size, color mode and file type. Some printers are picky.

Personally, we have a powerful PC. With CS2. Get these calls daily. Recommended for our output would be CMYK. @ 300 sized flattened and ready to go. If your on a MAC platform theres some files/byte orders that need to be resolved but are just a few clicks away. Would recommend what Lasa said and call the printer.
