Does anyone know how to reproduce this effect? I'm talking about the area where the white rectangle blends into the bubbled background. I have two layers, background and white rectangle, drop shadow seems only to cast a shadow down and to the right, how can I get it even? Is it a shadow or what?

alright so what we want to do here is put the white bg on bottom and then the bubble background right on top of it (in a new layer of course) then u will add a layer mask to the bubble layer grab ur gradient tool (make sure u hav it set to black to white or visa versa, and that u are editing inside the layer mask) ... ok now u want to draw the gradient out vertically .. what happpens now ... i explain .. with layer masks u are editing the opacity of the layer in accordance with its position and white is transparent and black is opaque soo wen u use a gradient fomr black to white u are literally fading the opacity of thhe layer from 100% at the begining to 0% a the end of the gradient
and for the white box just draw one out on a new layer and put a drop shadow on it ... try messing with the spread option i think it will give u the shadow on both sides
