I am very new to photoshop and have been trying to put phot in a heart shape.
Have followed on or two tuts but when it comes to rastarize this is greyed out.
If anyone could give step by step instructions for this I would be very greatful.

I don't think you have to rasterize anything..
You are just using the heart shape as a selection..Click on the photo..inverse the selection and delete..
You will have to double click on the photo if it is a background layer, so the delete will work..Double click and click ok, or duplicate the photo first..

Are having trouble making the selection? if you found the heart and made the heart shape (just a thin line you can't do anything with thats a path) go to the PATH palette grouped with the layers palette. you should see your heart path, click on it to make sure the heart is active (turns blue)..then go down to the bottom of the path palette and press the "load path as selection" third from the left.
Now you have a heart selection copy and paste to a new layer (ctrl + J)
Now you can add the styles etc.

This is thank "LASA" for your help I could not work it out at the time but now after playing around with the program it has become clear,
and your instructions apparent.
Many thanks Kevin "Mopy".

Glad it worked...This program is basically anti-intuitive when starting...but once you "get it"..all other seem crazy.
go figure.
