hi, I don't really understand your purpose to put your selection tool exactly at the centre of the image. anyway, here is a trick to make your selection tool fall at the centre of the image:

1. choose crop tool (c) .
2. make a full rectangular covering the whole image. Centre of the image is indicated by crop tool.
3. place your cursor at the centre of the image.
4. cancel crop function (esc)
5. choose move tool (v)
6. click and drag.

Enlighten me if there is a simpler way of doing this.

To make your own pattern:

1. open any template pattern file noramlly located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Patterns

2. edit the template file to the pattern you want.
3. goto "edit" followed by " define pattern".
4. name your new pattern and you can now use it!!
