I am trying to select 2 people from one picture and add to another. I use the magnetic lasso to select them- what next? I can not figure out how to complete the selection (tried to press enter- nothing happened) After they are selected I was going to copy and paste. Is that the best way to do this? Thanks

Once you go all around the subjects (the selections need to meet at the begining)... Once they meet they will form marching ants (active selection)...copy (or cut) and paste. This will automatically place the new copy on its own layer above the background. Now you can move them with the move tool.
Good luck,

Lasa

If you mean for extraction (to crop, is to make a big picture smaller) I use quick mask.
Search this forum for it or the PS help. It makes extracting people or objects a lot easier...
If you have a white background you can also use the color range under selections.

Good luck,

Lasa

The pen tool and alpha channels works best instead of using the lasso tool!

Briefly - the pen and alpha channels takes HOURS to learn how to do properly because there is alot that you can do with each one of them separtly.

Do a search on Google on Pen tool in Photoshop and alpha channls.

Or there is a great 4 CD set at www.dvgarage.com under the "Products Menu" at the left hand side. Just point your mouse over the Photoshop menu bar and you'll see.
