Well I finally got me a tablet for christmas. I've been messing around with it for the past 20 min and it's going to take some time getting used to it.

Setting it up was simple, just plug it in and it works. I went ahead and installed the driver, nothing difficult. I am having trouble figuring out how to use the 512 levels of sensitivity and the eraser, but I believe the eraser was intended to be used in the other software it came with not photoshop.
There is one thing I have a habit of doing when using any mouse, picking it up and moving it over and then continue to move the cursor so I dont run off the mouse pad. But with the pen it goes by exact location and I keep trying to make those shorter wrist movements to move the cursor across the screen. I don't know if that makes any sense or not...lol
Also I dont care for the mouse it comes with it's to slow, maybe theres a way I could changed the speed I dont know I'll just stick my original mouse when I'm not using the pen.
Oh yeah, another cool thing is when you assign the buttons on the pen, you can assign one of them to open a drop down menu and you can put programs in there to open up when you select them.

Thanks for the tips Ron, I know what you mean about lifting the mouse, I do the same myself, so I'm going to get the same thing (still havent tried it yet! DOH!!) I have been too busy setting up my sons new PC and router, and installing all his software, and replacing a dead hard drive (good start on a new PC! lol ) I must try and install the tablet later. Yeah my dad bought my lil brother a new MB, CPU, and a Gig of RAM but didn't think about upgrading the power supply. The form factor of the new MB is a EATX and his case wont fit that type of power supply. So he's gonna spend more than he intended....lol

Well I installed it (at last!!!) and I'm quite pleased, you can set it to pen or mouse style, I'm trying pen for the time being, it does take a bit of getting used to, theres more hand movement than the mouse, I think thats the most difficult to get used to.
The eraser in mine seems to work the same as the photoshop eraser, what problem did you have?
Did ypu install painter that come with it (or did your have elements) Wayne
Not to interrupt, but just to let you guys know that you might want to turn off the "Double Click Assist" w/in the settings for the tablet itself. I've run into severe problems with that on when I was using PS (6, 6.01, CS). It kept ending my selections early (when using lasso), or wouldn't let me end it (via double clicking) and they had no clue what was causing it. After a few hours on the phone with them (over the course of 3 or 4 days) and ending up talking to management, I figured out that it was the double click assist that was the heart of all the problems. So, if you start having funky troubles, uncheck the box next to that double click assist.
Also, be sure to update your drivers right after you plug in the tablet.
You can turn off the pressure sensitive brushes individually in PS (well, 6 at least, but I believe you can do the same in CS), so that you don't have to worry about all the different pressure levels. I find it easier to use that way, but you can disable all or some or none of them, which ever suits you.
As far as the wrist movement, think of the pen for the tablet as just a regular pen. Try holding it like you'd hold a pen or pencil and keep the movements just like you'd do for writing or drawing, you might find that a little easier.

I haven't installed any of the software it came with yet but it did come with elements 3 along with the others. I'm curious now why my eraser isn't working. So all you have to do is flip the pen around and it automatically switches to the eraser when you drag it on the tablet?

How do you set the the sensetivity levels in the version of PS your using? I'm currently using PS 7 but I'm bout to upgrade to PS CS2 soon.

Thanks Steve, I did alter the settings anyway (I wanted a single click) but I didn't see the pressure setting option, can you vary the 512 levels or just on and off? thanks for the tips though mate.
Ron, to answer your question, my eraser works by reversing it, just like the one in PS, maybe yours doesn't work because you didn't install the software? just a guess. I had the option of getting it with elements 3, or with Corel painter (a fair bit cheeper) as I allready had CS2 I went for the cheeper option, I haven't bothered to install painter though.

Ouch.....I'm stuck on PS6 I have CS at home, but no tablet at home. I'll tell you how I adjust 6 and you can go from there, hopefully it won't be to different in the newer versions. I'll put a screen shot (cropped) at the end of this post. Select a tool, say the airbrush. Now, up top on the menu bar, towards the middle, there's a button with a picture of that tool (or just the tip of a paint brush), click it. It'll give you a little menu. From that menu you can turn on/off the "stylus" settings, which is the pressure settings from your tablet. Turning it from stylus to off will make it so that you have to select the brush size/pressure manually. It's up to you to decide which one you like best; personally, I adjust the settings myself, but that's just me
For turning the settings on/off or adjusting them in the tablet itself: Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel. Click on "Wacom Tablet Properties". This should give you your adjustments for the tablet. From here, you should be able to adjust everything on your tablet, including the sensitivity of it. NOTE; you can adjust this just for photoshop by choosing application (well, from mine you can). It should give you a little square window to test your pen/tablet for the settings you've just changed.
Please let me know if I've confused you!
EDIT: Wayne, Sorry, you can single click the tablet by gently tapping the pen tip to the tablet...once for a single click, twice for a double click. This may be eaiser than setting a single click for the pen, but again, it's up to you on how you "personalize" your tablet;)
