Not too bad if your a newbie.
The text is a bit difficult to understand. But then I suppose that's not the issue. I would have given it a slight drop shadow to make it stand out a bit.
What to you want, the image or the text to be prominent.
The image is the first thing that catches my eye, then I am distracted by the hard to read text.
Im not sure what the person is supposed to be. A soldier with a helmet? with a hat?
but I like the colour scheme
