I was trying to use the pen tool in photoshop cs3 but for some reason when I use it it fills the area with color following the line any ideas how to stop that ? It is a little hard to explain so I've included a screen shot of it Thanks.

I don't know, as I can't remember, what it looks like in CS3, but in CS4 you have the 'fill pixels' and other selection when using the pen tool. See if you have these selected.
