New to this forum and I have not used the latest Photoshops. I like Photoshop 5 but can't use it anymore because I switched to a 64 bit OS.

Photoshop CS5 seems expensive to me at this point. Is Elements 10 a viable alternative? I am not a pro but would like to improve and take better photos and render them as best I can.

I have Lightroom 4 which I like.

Any suggestions? Is Gimp a better alternative then Elements if I can't afford the CS6?

Thank you.

Although not as comprehensive as CS6 Elements 10 is a very good program it really depends how far you want to go with manipulation. You may find it a little lacking though if you have already used PS5...

I have not checked do Adobe do a trial of Elements worth a look?

Actually I misspoke. I used Photoshop 5, which is about 10 years old. I am very used to it and would continue to use it but I can't because of the 64 bit issue.

Does it take a lot to qualify for the student teacher discount?

thanks

Hey Smorton. Welcome. :)

If you are a teacher or a student, you should be able to qualify. Are you? Details are here: http://www.adobe.com/education/eligibility-guide.edu.html?showEduReq=no

Thanks,

Patrick
