This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a while now. I am still on a learning-curve for Photoshop and am trying to sort everything out by slef-help on specific tasks as I meet them. So hello (from England)!
I am helping a friend compile pictures (of advertisements) for a magazine of hers. She sends me the ads as pdf files and wants me to transform them into high-res jpegs. This I have done by opening the pdfs (72 dpi res) in PS (CS v8) and changing the resolution to 300 dpi. Everything has worked well, using either Mac or Windows (XP and CS2) using this method. If I look at the original pdf files in Preview, the images are fine - all very clear and sharp.
Recently, I upgraded my (Mac) OS from Panther to Tiger. Now, when I do exactly the same thing, as above, the text is 'fuzzy' (although the pictures are sharp) and also colours bleed from the background to the text.
The only way that I can produce quality images now is to open the pdf files in Acrobat, where the images are crystal-clear as are the saved jpegs.
Can anyone please help as to what might be going on? Are there any known Tiger issues with PS that I haven't found by searching?
As an incidental, when I re-installed PS on my up-graded Mac, the opening screen of PS now says "For the Photoshop UI to display correctly, open System Preferences, click General, and turn off text smoothing for font sizes 8 and smaller". Apart from that being a new one on me, my System Preferences don't offer me that option. |
