In this video

the use paints over several adjustment layers. Does the area (s)he painted over become transparent? What color paint do I need to use for this to happen |

hi,
what there doing is applying , in this case , 3 hue adjustent layers... and it appears a layer for the sky , for the lake, for the greenery ...
now... when you make a adjustment layer you have a mask..
now remember black hides and white shows...
in this case if you notice foeground color on the left side... it sort of a 50% grey ... that he pick from the color pallet...
that the color that he painting on the mask .. that will tend to hide.....
so in essense
1. make a hue saturation layer... and adjust to where he get more greenn
2. he paints on the mask to hide those area that he does want to show thru..
3. then he makes a couple of ther adjustment layers to bring out the blues on the sky and lake...and rpeats the process..
that it... those kind of tutorials where there more entertaining than teaching are hard to follow or reason out.... |

jerryb4417, thank you for the quick and informative reply.
Turns out that I've been doing this for some time bud in a different way; I mark an area, lets say the sky, Layers> New layer via cut then apply an adjustment layer for the new layer, then I repeat the process for the lake and grass.
I have discovered lately that new layer via cut produces a thin transparent line that outlines the selected area so I've started to use new layer via copy and have the new layer + it's adjustment above the background layer in the layers palette. |

hi,
your welcolme....
that the thing... there a lot of different ways to do the same thing photoshop... smiling.... and in a way that good because because depending on the image one may need to try a couple of different ways before finding one that works for a image ..
on that "cut" andpaste and leaving aline... i'll have to check that out.... very rarely do i use cut almost always copy and paste...
right now been working a peculiar issue with quick selection tool... it seems if you do a copy and paste (and don't use the refine tool) the edges comes blurred .. also making a mask from the selection will also give blurr edges, at least on mine it appears a few other people noticed also ... of course theretricks to overcome the issue... i sure like to know why... right now ithink that just the by product of the tool and adobe assumes your going to use the refine tool everytime... oh well
have a merry christmas and happy new year |

Don't forget that the "quick selection tool" is a relatively new tool in Photoshop's life and I hope that PS CS 6 will have an improved quick selection tool.
I just discovered something strange about this tool:
I opened PS while a few other software applications were running and used the quick selection tool. Clicking and dragging does not work! What does work is moving the cursor and clicking in different places. My conclusion is: Clicking and dragging with the quick selection tool requires a lot of the computer's resources. |
