I havent been using photoshop very long but i have gotten the hang of using all the brushes, tools, etc.

The project i am working on now is for a friend. What i need to do is take the picture i have of him and have his arms disintegrating into flames and a couple other things. But, im stuck on making the arms blend into flames well... can anyone help me understand how to do this best?? Ive done this with someone head going to smoke but for some reason i cant figure this out.. thanks in advance and if you need any more info about this to understand what im asking better, let me know.

Hi to you, i think it depends on a couple of things, one are you going to take a photo of flames or are you going to try & find a stock photo?

Whatever way you choose it is quite simple & basically will be the same, if you take the photo yourself make sure that you have as plain a background as possible, the same goes if you use a stock photo.

Once you have your flames you can then delete the background & i am assuming you know what to do for that, then drag the flames onto the main subject image, from here you need to make sure that it blends well & you need to make various alterations either curves/levels & so on using an adjustment layer to your image till it looks right you may also need to use the gradient tool, the clone tool & the eraser to get it right, a lot of it will be trial & error but you will get there in the end some images may look right & some may not.

don't forget to use copy images so you still have the originals, good luck & post what you have done so we can see when you have finished.

Is there an example we could look at as to the effects you're looking for?

Sometimes the smudge tool works well for this.
Without seeing the image its hard to give any advice.
