The photo at the bottom was edited to make the model appear more tan. The pregnant mother (Sherry) I am photographing tomorrow told me she is really white in person, just like her friend in the photographs below. But Sherry wants the photographs to turn out like her friends, with that darker tanner look.
I'm sure with the right lighting I can get that effect but I have no control over the lighting since we are taking the photos at her house.

If I am not able to control the lighting, is there any way I can make a pale model have a sun kissed effect with photo shop? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I would just like some kind of back up so my model will be satisfied. Thank you a bunch!

Hi Aimee,
I don't think that much can be done, however try the following:
- Create adjustment layer "Photo Filter" and add some warming filter to tan highlights (I used "Sepia" with 65% density)
- Mask unnecessary tan
- Create adjustment layer (Curves, Levels, or Brightness/Contrast), slightly darken the skin, and mask it as needed
- To tan the belly area, select it (eg with the Magic Wand) and adjust its tone / color separately

Ok thanks! The photo shoot is tomorrow so if it doesn't work out with the lighting then I'll for sure be playing around with the coloring and all that. I feel so silly because I've been working with photo shop for a long time, but I've never got into masking. I know a lot of people use it....where can I find this masking tool? And what do you mean create an "adjustment layer"? Like a duplicate layer of the same image? Thank you for your help and patients!

- To mask (hide) a layer pull down "Layer > Layer Mask > Hide All".
- Then, paint on the mask with white color to reveal some area or with black color to hide it again.
- To create adjustment layer pull down "Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels" (or any other adjustment from the sub-menu).
- Created adjustment layers already have mask, so you don't need to create it. Just paint on the image with black color there where you want to hide adjustment effect.
