Layers don't just appear, you have to make layers. Using layers is for non-destructive editing.

There are several ways. Click the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette.
Or hit shift+ctrl+N.
Or from the main menu-Layer-New-Layer...

You do realize the new layer will be blank?

Ok, i got it - how to put images into layers in PS.
I use the Place command then i get all images stacked nice.
Now i'll like to compose a merged layer from all of these stacked ones...
The stack of layers is PSD, PNG and JPG formats.
A text in PSD format from cooltext.com
A photo in JPG
An image in PNG.
The most expressive composition and look has to be merged.
How can change a text (working with the texture) in PSD format in PS ? Something with Outline ?
But how do i do this most easily ?
