Hello everyone! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I love this forum!

I usually just do outdoor photos, but lately I've been taking photos of my nephews at my sisters request.

I've seen a lot of pictures (of children especially) that look like the ones I have linked to below. How do I get these kinds of effect in my photos?

How do you make the colors pop so much and the lighting is just nice and soft. The background seems muted and not distracting like in my pictures.
