|
|
Dear All
I want to fade to transparent from right to left on an image in Photoship CS2. So on the right side the image is normal but the further left you go the more the image becomes transparent until it is fully transparent towards the left.
I do not want to fade to white.
I want to be able to see whatever background I place the image on through the transparent areas.
Many thanks
Blake

There are a few ways you could do this. A simple way that I used in the example was using the rectangle marque tool. I set the feather option to 50 px. Make sure the image that you want to feather is above the background layer. Select the area that you want to be 100% opacity. Then select inverse and hit delete. This will feather the image.

Mr Omen, thank you for this advice. I tried your suggestion and it works.
May I ask is there a way to do this with the gradient function instead? The reason I ask is that it would be better for my purposes if I could achieve transparency using the gradient feature rather than feathering.
Many thanks
Blake

For example, here I have applied what is described in Photoshop as a transparent gradient, to a layer in a psd file and then exported it as a .gif but as you can see it has not faded to transparent, rather it has faded to white.
What I want to do is fade to transparent and wonder if it can be acheive with the gradient feature.
