Help! Problem while using magnetic lasso tool.

I don't really even know how to search properly for a post regarding this issue, although I've tried and I found nothing.

Whenever I start using the magnetic lasso tool, after about 10-15 seconds, it's like my Photoshop refreshes itself or something and then suddenly the magnetic lasso disappears and a selection is created but only from the short piece I've just started with. I don't know what's happening or how to stop this. Confused

I've done several other things in Photoshop and this does not happen. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to stop it? I appreciate your help with this.
