I have photoshop 4.0. I'm trying to recreate this "dot" effect and apply it to my own text, but I don't know which filter to use or if a filter would even be the correct way to go about it. I tried asking on another message board, but I'm a beginner and no one was able to give me step by step instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try the color halftone filter, but this pic has a graduation in tone so the pixel radius varies. Go under 'filter' then 'pixelate' and choose 'color halftone'.
