In Photoshop I selected the head and hair then I reduced brightness and increased the contrast.

Quick colour correction on face followed by duplicating the layer and setting to multiply and masking in the face, a quick and lazy clone and heal on the background halo and bobs your uncle. With more time and care you could get better results. Just as a side point to my minds eye the head is a little too small.
